IODD Tool

IODD Tool is a native macOS Swift utility for preparing FAT32/exFAT host storage and contiguous fixed-size VHD images for IODD devices. The development app includes image and external-volume analysis, allocation maps, IODD eligibility checks, VHD creation, defragmentation, compaction and recovery.

Implementation and lifecycle fixes are consolidated on main. Installer/Homebrew integration and final release qualification remain open in Qualify and package the native app.

The app targets Apple Silicon and macOS 15 or later. Build and run the local development app:

scripts/test.sh
scripts/build-app.sh debug
open 'build/IODD Tool.app'

Choose File → Open Disk Image… (Command-O) to analyze a disposable FAT32 or exFAT image. Analyze (Command-R) refreshes it; Stop Analysis (Escape) stops the scan. The default fragmented-files filter can be disabled to inspect the full inventory. Select a row to inspect complete cluster and byte ranges. The system app menu provides About and Quit.

For reproducible fixtures, independent allocation oracles and qualification details, see FAT32 image-analysis evidence and external-mutation evidence. The build command above produces a local development bundle; final signed/notarized distribution and the Homebrew cask remain pending.

The IODD Tool specification is the authoritative product/implementation index. Hosted resolution comments supersede the retained original feature specification and planning map. The implementation handoff links the build graph. Validation uses disposable images/virtual volumes and independent software oracles; hardware trials and performance commitments are outside the acceptance gate.

The reference baseline records prior observed behavior. GLOSSARY.md distinguishes host allocation, image format and device eligibility; ADRs record the accepted Swift engine, offline worker and internal-journal architecture.
